The tragedy of the “Gneisenau” returns in the form of a novel to the English Cemetery in Malaga
Next Thursday, 6 November, at 7:00 pm, the Chapel of the English Cemetery in Malaga will host the presentation of Gneisenau (Ediciones del Genal), the new novel by writer and University of Malaga professor Francisco Guerrero.
The work, published on the 125th anniversary of the sinking of the Prussian training ship “Gneisenau”, reconstructs that tragic event that took place off the port of Malaga on 16 December 1900, through the eyes of Victoria, an elderly granddaughter of one of the Malaga residents who helped rescue the German sailors.
The event will feature the author and cultural manager Héctor Márquez, live music by the Ballix Duo and theatrical performances by Eduardo Roberto, Fernando Gil and María José Ruiz.
The venue for the presentation is no coincidence: the English Cemetery preserves the monument and graves of the officers of the “Gneisenau”, a space that keeps alive the memory of that event that forever united Malaga and Germany.
