History can be told in many ways. But without a doubt, one of the ways we most enjoy is the one that makes you experience history from the inside, teleporting you and giving voice to those who rest in our garden.
In the 19th century, Malaga witnessed the peaceful coexistence of multiple cultures. However, death revealed the differences, as non-Catholic citizens could not be buried in the local cemeteries. Their bodies were buried clandestinely, on the beach, standing upright and with their heads facing the sea. This rite lasted until the inauguration, in 1831, of the first Protestant cemetery on the Iberian Peninsula: the English Cemetery in Malaga.
We invite you to delve into history through our dramatised visits by Historia Viva, in an exclusive tour behind closed doors that will allow you to unearth the mysteries and experiences of those who are in this cemetery.
During the visit you will relive the tragic execution of Robert Boyd and his companions, who gave their lives on the coast of Malaga. You will learn the story of the shipwreck of the German frigate Gneisenau guided by Captain Kritschman, and you will learn about the life of our beloved Mary Ann, owner of the famous tomb of the stone angel, among many other captivating stories.
The tour lasts 1.5 hours and costs €15, which includes a dramatised visit and entrance to the cemetery.
*Important: The route is not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
