The full moon has always been a powerful symbol in different cultures. For some it is a time of harvest, for others of fullness and fertility, for some it is a symbol of energy and for others of family unity.
It is also very important in funerary culture. In fact, ancient civilisations thought that the moon was the place where souls went after leaving their bodies.
The fact is that we are all, in one way or another, irremediably attracted to it. That is why, at the English Cemetery Foundation, we are launching a new activity that we are particularly excited about: guided tours on full moon nights. We think it is a unique moment to enter the oldest cemetery in the Iberian Peninsula in a different way. Under the subtle light of the full moon, we will discover some of the most important moments in Malaga’s history through the protagonists buried there, such as William Mark (founding consul of the cemetery), Joseph Noble, Robert Boyd, Gerald Brenan, Jorge Guillén…
This October 17th is the first edition of the Full Moon Tour, which takes place in two shows, the first at 8pm and the second at 10pm. During the tour (one hour long) visitors will discover the curiosities, traditions and stories that lie in its corners, better understanding the cultural and historical richness of this cemetery. A different and charming experience that invites you to get to know the past in a new light.
The visits are conducted by volunteers of the Foundation in two passes with limited capacity. Tickets available at Wegow.
